Pere David Deer

Early Spring 2020, I visited Margam Park with an aim to capture the deer herds that roam wild within their 500 acres (200 hectares) of parkland. The herd, was originally exclusively fallow deer but over the last 25 years, Red deer and then Pere David deer have been introduced and currently thrive at the park. The Pere David are an endangered species, in fact, they are extinct in the wild. The herd at the park they are part of a breeding programme under way in conjunction with Whipsnade Safari Park as part of a conservation program.
